Case study: Abu Sayyaf Group

Article Abstract:

Some of the Abu Sayyaf Group's (ASG's) most conspicuous maritime operations in Southeast Asia are illustrated. The assault on M/V Sintel Marine 88, Our Lady Mediatrix by the ASG operatives and the engagement between the ASG and the Philippine Special Forces are analyzed.

Aid efforts in Aceh encourage peace talks

Article Abstract:

The international aid response to the devastation of Indonesia's Aceh province by December 2004's tsunami has proved as a catalyst for renewed negotiations between the government and Acehnese insurgents. However, the negotiating positions on both sides remain entrenched.
