Caught in the network: How the doctrine of network-centric warfare allows technology to dictate military strategy

Article Abstract:

The doctrine of network-centric warfare (NCW) is attracting many in the defense community, both in the United States and elsewhere, but it is noticed that the concept of NCW is fundamentally flawed. The four main reasons for this assertion is that the doctrine ignores the human character of information, underestimates the enemy, ignores the dynamic nature of combat and incorrectly assumes that military victory is an end in itself.
