Challenges and choices

Article Abstract:

The perils ahead for the NATO campaign are described along with the choices that must be made to bring about the long-term stability, resulting in victory for Afghanistan. The choices include the United States, NATO and its partners' decision to return to power for the Taliban and the other choice is to play midwife to the emergence of a functioning, modern state, which is an economically and politically independent Afghanistan.

RIMPAC 2004: It's all about interoperability

Article Abstract:

The Rim of the Pacific (RIMPAC) 2004, a biennial event held off the Hawaiian coast had improvements in communications and interoperability as its primary goals in its 2004 exercise. During the 2004's RIMPAC exercise, officials focused on improving cooperation and efficiency among nations while moving from the larger blue-water operations of the past to concentrating on littoral areas.

PLAN for growth: China's surface fleet modernization fits Beijing's appetite for sea power

Article Abstract:

China's People's Liberation Army Navy (PLAN) seeks to extend Beijing's maritime power beyond denying access to the US Navy. PLAN has succeeded in producing a large naval active phased array radar, a C-Band System, while all its new destroyers feature advanced combat control systems with data links via the Russian Mineral-ME system.
