Civilians in harm's way

Article Abstract:

Civilian members of the US Air Force taking part in the global war on terror in Iraq are also facing the same risk as those faced by its uniformed members. The civilians, who work alongside their uniformed colleagues, providing a range of support such as air traffic control, information technology, and criminal investigation manpower, also come under fire due to the different nature of war on terrorism as compared to the traditional war in which there was a clear dividing line between the enemy and the good.

A line in the ice

Article Abstract:

A line of buildings where radar technicians, pilots, cooks, radio operators, metal workers and military commanders constitute the Distant Early Warning (DEW) line population exists over the north pole, braving the cold and watching for an attack from the west. The DEW population belongs to the US military, as their greatest fear is a sneak attack by the Soviet bombers, flying undetected.
