Clasdestine trade in arms: a matter of ways and means

Article Abstract:

The illegal and secret trade in weapons are conducted in many levels, from the relatively small requirements of criminal gangs to the needs of national armies. Governments that are subjected to international embargo are those which will likely have a high demand for illegal arms purchases. The most difficult type of military goods whose exports are very difficult to control are the dual-use technology. Such goods include chemicals, arms, communications systems, aircraft, vehicles and navigation devices.

Mining the straits of Southeast Asia

Article Abstract:

Southeast Asia has a number of straits that are critical to local trade and international shipping. Mines laid in some or all of these straits or even threats to mine these waters, in time of a localized or generalized conflict, could have many adverse consequences for the countries controlling these straits. However they could easily escalate conflicts further given the high level of international shipping passing through Southeast Asian straits.
