Contested presidential election undermines stability in Mexico

Article Abstract:

Mexico' presidential election on 2 July 2006 have left the country with two candidates that include Felipe Calderon, of the incumbent National Action Party and Andres Manuel Lopez Obrador of the Part of the Democratic Revolution vying for the post. Preliminary results had suggested that Calderon won the election by 0.58 percent of the vote, but Lopez Obrador has immediately rejected the results, claiming that there was an electoral fraud in Calderon's favor, and demanded a full recount.

Mexican people-smuggling trade worth billions

Article Abstract:

The criminal gangs in Mexico are exploiting illegal immigrants, who try to gain access to the U.S. by running people-smuggling networks that make billions of dollars every year. The networks dedicated to people-smuggling across Mexico specialize in smuggling illegal immigrants into the US from Mexico and Central America, operate a relatively sophisticated logistical infrastructure and have many years' experience in the people-smuggling business.
