Court of inquiry investigates "Greenville" collision with training ship

Article Abstract:

The investigation of the February 9 collision between the nuclear-power submarine USS 'Greeneville' and the Japanese fisheries training ship 'Ehime Maru' is near completion by a Navy court of inquiry and the National Transportation Safety Board.

Northrop Grumman ship systems christens first San Antonio

Article Abstract:

The first unit of the next generation of landing platform dock ships (LPDs) was christened as San Antonio (LPD 17), in honor of the Texas City, at the Avondale Operations shipyard of Northrop Grumman Ship Systems. The 24,900-ton San Antonio plans to replace 36 older amphibious warfare ships in the fleet, and it transports approximately 800 marines for assault of objectives by helicopter, tiltorotor aircraft, landing craft or amphibious assault vehicle.

Fire scout UAV is poised as sensor, shooter for Littoral Combat Ship

Article Abstract:

Fire Scout, a small remotely controlled unmanned aerial vehicle (UAV) is developed for several key missions, including defense of the NavyEs future fleet of Littoral Combat Ships (LCSs) from attack by fast moving ships and small boats. It will be fitted with rockets, possibly laser-guided to protect LCS from attack by other ships and boats.
