'DANEX 06' emphasises humanitarian dimension

Article Abstract:

Denmark's DANEX 2006 series focused on naval evacuation training and humanitarian assistance/disaster relief (HA/DR) against a real-world backdrop of evacuation operations taking place in Lebanon. DANEX 2006 saw 30 vessels attend from seven navies between 4 and 14 September 2006 although a number of vessels, including three German fast-attack craft and the Berlin-class replenishment ship FGS Frankfurt am Main, were called away for operations in Lebanon.

EGUERMIN sets mine-warfare training mark

Article Abstract:

Edwin Vanden Haute, Director of EGUERMIN naval mine-warfare (NMW) school at Ostend, has descried the school's recent achievements and its future plans. The main aim of EGUERMIN is to ensure that allied personnel are kept up to date in mine-warfare tactics and techniques and it also contributes to a number of initiatives to promote improvements in NMW tactics and techniques.

North Atlantic Treaty Organization (NATO) has established standing naval forces to fulfill rapid response functions across a wide range of operations, in times of peace and conflict. The function and future contribution to the NATO Response Force is highlighted.
