Danger on the high seas: Sophisticated threats spur new ship-defense technologies

Article Abstract:

The future military ships must be capable of defending themselves against both an ever-increasing array of advanced offensive weapons and some very rudimentary asymmetric threats. The surface vessels that modern navies pursue are more capable and versatile than current ships but fewer in number and so the need to provide adequate defenses for those platforms becomes more pressing.

X-45 tests beyond-line-of-sight control

Article Abstract:

The Joint Unmanned Combat Air Systems' (J-UCAS) X-45 program's control is transferred to a control station nearly 900 miles away after it completed its first beyond-line-of-sight flight test. This flight is an essential step towards proving the system's capability to smoothly transfer command and control of the air vehicles between mission control elements.

Warfighter Inc. : As reliance on private companies grows, so do potential pitfalls

Article Abstract:

The British government through the Public/Private Partnerships system warmly embraces an increase in public/private cooperation. It is designed to improve efficiency and reduce costs, should be expanded to encompass private military companies (PMCs), particularly those providing security services, so that military forces might use them more extensively.
