Dawn of a new era for the German Navy: First corvette type K 130 christened 'Braunschweig'

Article Abstract:

The first of a series of five corvettes was named 'Braunschweig' at the TKMS Blohm + Voss (B+V) shipyard on April 19, 2006. The day was of great importance for ARGE K 130 consortium, comprising of TKMS shipyards B+V and Nordseewerke and Fr. Lurssen Werft, as it signified a paradigm change in the German Navy, which changes with this new class from the Missile Fast Patrol Boats (FPBs) built during the Cold War to a new littoral combatant.

Third German 212A class submarine christened 'U 33'

Article Abstract:

HDW, the first company in the world to produce a production-ready fuel-cell propulsion system developed a new submarine class 212A, which features an atmospheric air-independent propulsion (AIP) system based on the hydrogen fuel cell (FC). The electricity produced from hydrogen and oxygen in FC enables the new class of submarine to cruise submerged for weeks.

U 212A submarines

Article Abstract:

The development, design, characteristics and functions of the U 212A submarines are discussed. Germany and Italy have planned to introduce sister class submarines to their fleets in correspondence with their operational requirements and have signed this decision in a Memorandum of Understanding.
