DoD appoints bio-detector operator

Article Abstract:

The United States Department of Defense (DoD) has given a contract to industry to manage the critical job of keeping the military's biological agent detectors operating effectively. The logistics support contract worth $160 million was awarded to Engineering Support Inc., a subsidiary of AAI, located in Hunt Valley, Maryland and the responsibility of Battelle of Columbus, Ohio, includes operations and maintenance work on bio-warfare detection equipment used by all US services.

Rush order on protection: Armor deliveries quicken for Iraq-bound troops

Article Abstract:

The effort by the U.S. Army and Marine Corps to rush body armor and vehicle armor to Iraq in response to the guerilla tactics of the Iraqi insurgents using deadly IEDS and other weapons is highlighted. There is a continuing evolution in body armor based on the kind of casualties experienced in theater and new developments, including one called 'liquid armor', are taking place to counter the discomfort factors such as increased body temperature and restricted movement.

Shoring up defenses

Article Abstract:

The Coast Guard for war fighting in far-flung littoral or coastal regions initiates the Littoral Combat Ship of the Navy and the Deepwater Program. The two new programs that are expected to lead to cross-service collaborations are highlighted.
