Does NATO still have the will? Alliance plods forward at less-than-deliberate speed

Article Abstract:

The United States assisted the North Atlantic Treaty Organization (NATO) in expanding, by bringing in seven new members and proposed the creation of a NATO Response Force (NRF) whereas the NATO proposed the formation of the European Rapid Reaction Force (ERRF) for fighting against new security threats like terrorism. It is yet to be seen whether these improvements and expansions made to the NATO will assist the NATO alliances in mustering the will, determination, resources and public support that is required for fighting and winning the war against terrorism.

Trident conversation wins NDP support: a giant step forward for SSGN concept

Article Abstract:

The US Navy is requesting funding for the conversion of four nuclear-powered Trident ballistic missile submarines into conventional land-attack platforms for use by special operations units. The proposals include the modification of 24 tubes in the submarines to accommodate Tomahawk cruise missiles and ATACMS or NTACMS tactical ballistic missiles. The remaining tubes would also be converted into lockin and lockout rooms for Navy SEAL commandos during special warfare operations in a littoral conflict.
