Dragon fire

Article Abstract:

The US Army is developing an unmanned, remotely operated mortar system, which will be called Dragon Fire. The new equipment is expected to have the capability to shoot 120mm mortar fire from weapons spread throughout a considerable area. The Dragon Fire, which is being developed by the Armament Research Development and Engineering Center, also has the capacity to load by itself, relieving itself of any form of human intervention. The new weapons system is scheduled for demonstration in the Marine Corps' Urban Warrior Advanced Warfighting Experiment.

Article Abstract:

Pentagon official drew heavy criticism concerning their decision to remain with an earlier program to stick with an in-house mapping software development program. The outcome of ongoing dispute with the industry carries significant implications for the future of warfighters of the US. The dispute is focused on a committment that has stood for four years to fund the development of software for the Joint Mapping Tool Kit, a critical component of the US military's Global Command and Control System.

Article Abstract:

The Army has revised its procurement strategy for the tactical unmanned aerial vehicle (TUAV) acquisition program. The revised TUAV strategy calls for the service to make a decision about accelerating the production schedule for the RQ-7A Shadow 200 by Feb 2001, three months before the operational testing of the Shadow is scheduled to begin. Army officials are apparently very optimistic that the Shadow will perform as advertised.
