EU activates Maritime Task Group for 'on call' rapid reaction force

Article Abstract:

The European Union's (EU) Maritime Task Group (EU-MTG), activated on March 7, 2006, is designed to be an 'on-call' rapid-reaction maritime force that can be activated within 10 days and is capable of a range of crisis scenarios. The main objective of the EU-MTG is to eventually be composed of ships from EU navies to enable the EU to react with better capability, quickly and effectively, and also be able to remain deployed for 30 to 120 days.

Commodore Hank Ort

Article Abstract:

Commodore Han Ort and his 25-strong staff have managed the tactical control of the Combined Task Force 150 (CTF-150) since 12 December 2005. CTF-150 is one of the maritime forces carrying out expanded Maritime Interception Operations (MIO) centering on the Horn of African, aimed at denying international terrorists use of the maritime environment as a venue for attack or to transport personnel, weapons or other material.

Captain Xavier Magne, commanding officer of FNS Charles de Gaulle present his views about the aircraft carrier's participation in the Agapanthe 2004' and its place within France's strategic defense policy. He states that the aim of the mission is to maximize training opportunities in order to generate a capable task force.
