The future of evolution of airborne radar

Article Abstract:

The likely evolution of the airborne radar is discussed. The introduction of passive electronically scanned phased array (ESA) represented the initial phase of the evolutionary path, while mid phase would involve the active ESA. The final phase is expected to involve the conformal smart skin array, which combines active ESA technology with multifunction share radio frequency apertures to create wide-band multifunction conformal arrays which can be integrated with the airframe structure.
