Targeting: In the hands of the pods

Article Abstract:

The conflict between the Israel Defence Force (IDF) and Hizbullah forces has highlighted the advantages and limitations of the targeting pods, whereby the necessity to improve the resolution of the electro-optical sensors in targeting pods and displays in the cockpit is demonstrated. The technological developments to the design of targeting pods are continuing to ensure maximum performance, with externally mounted targeting pods likely to be replaced by fully integrated internally mounted systems.

Eurofighter Typhoon community prepares for two-year rolling update programme

Article Abstract:

The Eurofighter Typhoon industry consortium and user community are preparing for a two-year rolling update cycle designed to gradually introduce a wide range of advanced capabilities that will give the Typhoon multirole and swing-role mission performance. The negotiations for the Phase 1 Enhancements (P1E) were scheduled to be finalized by September and October of 2006, followed by contract award by the end of 2006.
