Extract from the annual report of the Marine Corps to Congress

Article Abstract:

The Marine Corp has fulfilled or exceeded its recruiting goals since 1995 and aims to recruit 39,343 men and women in 2000 and slightly over 41,000 in 2001. However, it has requested the support of Congress in ensuring that school systems, which benefit from federal funding, provide access and directory information for military recruiters. Furthermore, it has asked Congress to reconsider a further reduction in headquarters staff mandated by law in 2000 as this will considerably restrict the ability of the Corp to fulfill its operational and Title 10 responsibilities. Congress was also urged to prioritize the DD 21-class destroyer program to provide the Corp with badly needed naval surface fire support.
