Euro-force

Article Abstract:

The leaders of the 15-nation European Union (EU) have agreed to deploy a 60,000-strong rapid-reaction force in the region by 2003. The move is seen by analysts as a reaction to the EU nations' dismal showing during the war in Yugoslavia. The plan became final when the UK decided to withdraw its traditional objection to a European defense role. US leaders have warned that the EU forces should develop in a way that will not conflict with NATO.
