Financing insurgents in Colombia

Article Abstract:

ColombiaEs warring factions, namely, the Revolutionary Armed Forces of Colombia (Fuerzas Armadas Revolucionarias de Colombia-FARC) are among the richest illegal armies in the world, raising money from drugs, kidnapping, extortion and robbery and reporting estimated annual earnings ranging from US $400 million to $1 billion. The taxation mechanisms and other revenue-generating operations used by the insurgents and paramilitary groups are examined.

Nightclub attack demonstrates FARCEs new urban capability

Article Abstract:

BogotaEs El Nogal Nightclub attack where a car bomb exploded on 7th February 2003, killing 35 and injuring more than 160 people, has changed the direction of the ColumbiaEs civil conflict. The Marxist group of Fuerzas Armadas Revolucionarias de Columbia (FARC) was blamed by the authorities for the bomb attacks and is adopting urban tactics for targeting ColumbiasEs civilian elite.
