Mexican drug trafficking cartels set up camp in Peru

Article Abstract:

Cocaine, as opposed to coca base, is seized in large quantities in Peru, revealing that Mexican drug trafficking cartels are moving further up the narcotics chain, increasing their sophistication and earnings. An investigation of how this has become a cause for concern for Lima and US law enforcement authorities is presented.

Shining path threatens to return to violence

Peru's Shining Path's (Sendero Luminoso - SL) senior commander has reiterated threats to resume violent action unless the government agrees to a political settlement. Comrade Artemio, the most senior leader in the group, wants the group to get a political recognition from the government.
