Mexican drug money laundering is increasing threat to stability

Article Abstract:

Due to the growing strength of the Mexican organized crime groups in the drug trafficking chain from South American to the US, the laundering of drug sales proceeds in Mexico has increased, thus threatening its economic and financial stability. About $24 billion resulting from criminally activity is laundered annually in Mexico through the financial sector and economy, with 80 percent of it from drug trafficking and criminal 'entrepreneurs' mixing legitimate business and criminal activities.

Fighting back: Mexico declares war on drug cartels

Article Abstract:

Mexico's new appointed President Felipe Calderon has declared a major war against drug cartel in an effort to counter the rise of organized crime in the country. Intercartel violence has exploded in Mexico has been on rise in past months and the Mexico' extradition of many high profile drug traffickers to the US in January 2007 shows the administration's determination to deal with the menace.
