Five-year plan reinforces Hu's confident reformism

Article Abstract:

The fourth session of the 10th National People's Congress (NPC), the annual meting of China's unicameral parliament consisting of 3,000 deputies from the across the country finished in Beijing on 17 March 2006 serves as a forum for announcing government policy. This year's NPC was the venue for delivering the 11th five-year plan, which sets out policy objectives and overall guidelines for the country from 2006 to 2010.

Article Abstract:

China's rapid economic growth in 2006 has shown no signs of abating, despite Beijing's efforts to ensure a slower, more sustainable economy. China's growth levels, while perhaps not sustainable in the long term, have proved to be remarkably balanced, and show signs of sustained stability for the foreseeable future.
