Fleet reductions increase the risk factor

Article Abstract:

Admiral Sir Alan West, the Chief of Naval Staff of the United Kingdom (UK) Royal Navy and the First Sea Lord, shares his views regarding the impact of the newly announced cuts in ship and submarine numbers on the operations of the UK Royal Navy (RN). Adm Sir Alan West expresses his unhappiness over the reductions in resources to the RN but he realizes that their sacrifice was necessary for the safeguard funding of the Future Aircraft Carrier (CVF) program.

South African corvette crews receive FOST training

Article Abstract:

The South African Navy (SAN) has received a first sea-training package from the UK Royal Navy's (RN's) Flag Officer Sea Training (FOST) organization, which will help in the development of operating routines and training procedures for the SAN's new MEKO A-200 patrol corvettes. The FOST mobile sea-training team provided in-harbor and at-sea training for the crew of SAS Amatola, the first of the four ESACC consortium's patrol corvettes.
