France's Helios 2 incorporates infrared for night surveillance

Article Abstract:

France launched its new generation Helios 2 military surveillance satellites from the space center at Korou on 18th December 2004. Helios 2 has an infrared (IR) channel in its high-resolution optical instrument that enables the satellite to detect night time activity.

France to proceed with Helios-2 with or without allies

France is planning to launch a military surveillance satellite, with partial investments by Belgium, and possibly Spain. Details of the satellite program, Helios-2, are discussed.
