From cluster to cluster: JTRS makes and rides the waves

Article Abstract:

The Joint Tactical Radio System (JTR) program gives a cutting edge communications technology to the US military by delivering the benefits of Global Information Grid down to individual platforms. The Software Communications Architecture, Cluster 1, Wideband Networking Waveform, Cluster 2, Cluster 5, Soldier Radio Waveform, and Cluster Airborne Maritime Fixed are clusters that bring together cross-service requirements in functional areas that may contain several JTR sets to fulfill the range of needs.

GD bags Alvis

Article Abstract:

General Dynamics' (GD's) bid to acquire a controlling interest in a British Company Alvis Vickers has been met with varying degrees of acceptance giving a good indication of GD's aspirations in the UK and elsewhere. The impact of this bid on the UK's Future Rapid Effects System (FRES) programme, the consolidation of Europe's AFV sector and other acquisitions of GD in Europe are discussed.
