Germany readies KZO UAV for Afghanistan

Article Abstract:

The German Army is developing its Kleinfluggerat Zielortung (KZO) artillery target acquisition unmanned aerial vehicle (UAV) for its initial operation deployment in Afghanistan. The prime contractor of Rheinmetall Defence Electronics on 28 November 2005 formally handed over the first KZO system comprising 10 air vehicles and two ground stations and five more of such systems are due to be delivered by the end of 2007, thus giving the German Army a total of 60 air vehicles and 12 ground stations.

Rheinmetall plans step change in remote controlled weapon station capability

Article Abstract:

Rheinmetall Defence will complete the development of a new-generation remote-controlled weapon station (RCWS) in 2009. The design object of RCWS is to combine the low weight and height of the present lightweight mounts with the weapon effect of its heaviest manned turret, which Rheinmetall is offering in conjunction with Kongsberg for the German Army's GFF/GTF vehicle programmes.

German Army set to receive lightweight network-enabled fire-support system

Article Abstract:

The German Army is expected to take delivery of the first of its new Joint Airborne Reconnaissance and Combat Network systems in 2009. The common vehicle platform for the system is Rheinmetall's Wiesel 2 light tracked carrier, which weights 4.5 tonnes and is small enough to be carried as an internal load abroad a CH-53 medium-lift helicopter.
