IRSTs search new horizons

Article Abstract:

An infrared search-and-track (IRST) system provides passive panoramic surveillance and threat warning of low-elevation air and surface threats. Even though the operational employment of shipborne IRST systems are limited, its research and development activities are continuing to exploit the potential of both scanning and staring systems for ship self-defense and situational awareness.
