Indo-US strategic ties on the upswing

Article Abstract:

Strategic ties based on converging national interests shared perceptions of the evolving Asia-Pacific security environment are strengthening between India and USA. The sanctions imposed in response to IndiaEs 1998 nuclear tests were relaxed and military-to-military links were stored with the joining of India in US-led war on terror.

Southeast Asian nations look to combat piracy, terrorism

Article Abstract:

Southeast Asian countries have agreed to two initiatives aiming at improving the subregion's maritime security environment. The initiatives have emerged to an upsurge in violent piracy attacks in the Strait of Malacca and heightened fears of terrorist attacks in Southeast Asian waters.

Scramble for Cam Ranh Bay as Russia prepares to withdraw

Article Abstract:

Russia has announced that it will be withdrawing from Vietnam's Cam Ranh Bay naval base in January 2002. It is assumed that the United States, China, and India might have an interest in taking Russia's place, but Vietnam may elect to convert it to a commercial facility.
