Johnstown ceremonies open new U.S. Martin-Baker plant

Article Abstract:

Martin-Baker Aircraft Company Ltd has opened a new facility in Johnstown, PA. Martin-Baker is a British-owned firm that has manufactured ejection seats for US Navy and Marine Corps aircraft for over 50 years. The company's Navy Aircrew Common Ejection Seat is its newest ejection seat designed for the Navy. It also makes the US16LA ejection seat installed in the T-6A Texas II Joint Primary Aircraft Training System and was awarded a $20 million contract to build seats for the Marine Corps' CH-53E Super Stallion helicopters.

The birthplce of future carriers

Article Abstract:

Newport News Shipbuilding and Dry Dock Co (NNS) has started the construction of its Virginia Advanced Shipbuilding and Carrier Integration Center (VASCIC) in Mar 1999. The facility will be used NNS and other defense companies for on-site carrier warfare systems testing, training and laboratory research fro the next generation of aircraft carriers. VASCIC is slated to be operational in June 2001.

The commissioning ofthe USS Winston S. Churchill (DDG 81)

Article Abstract:

The March 10, 2001 commissioning of the USS Winston Churchill destroyer was produced by the Hampton Roads Council of the US Navy League. The Churchill is the only active American military vessel named after a foreign leader.
