Judgment by actions not words

Article Abstract:

The new Austrian government should be evaluated by its actions and not by long-standing prejudices. The new political situation in Austria can only be perceived as something dangerous by those who cannot accept a democratic shift in power. The new ruling parties embrace the spirit of the EU to a degree than other political entities in Austria. The challenge for Europe is to prove that the negative attitude shown by EU countries against Austria will not discourage other small European nations from joining EU.

From neutrality to common European defence policy

Article Abstract:

Austrian Defense Minister Herbert Scheibner believes it is more important for Austria to get involved in a common European defense policy rather than put more priority in joining NATO. Scheibner clarifies that this stance does not exclude very close co-operation with NATO in the framework of the Enhanced Partnership for Peace. He feels that participation in the common defense policy does not come into conflict with Austria's policy of neutrality.
