Karen national rebels attack Myanmari pipeline

Karen National Union (KNU) insurers have taken responsibility for several attacks on a gas pipeline linking MyanmarEs Yadana natural gas field with ThailandEs electricity generating grid. KNUEs intentions behind the attacks were to attract international attention to Myanmar militaryEs alleged expressions of the Karen minority, and financing of military acquisitions with income from sale of Yadana gas by the ruling State Peace and Development Council (SPDC).

Chinese river scheme to boost trade

Article Abstract:

China has developed the Mekong Navigation Channel Improvement Project (MNCIP) to help drive economic integration between China and its southern neighbors. The project is designed to allow the passage of vessels to 150 dead weight tones (DWT) between Chinese city of Jinghong in the southwest Yunna province and Luang Prabang in north Laos.
