Kidnapping trends: Examining patterns in Africa and the Americas

Article Abstract:

The kidnapping trends found in Africa and Central America in the first three quarters of 2006 is examined. The kidnappings in Africa are politically driven and are mostly carried out by militant groups seeking economic and political concessions, whereas in Central America the politically motivated kidnapping have declined despite continued presence of many militant groups.
