Norway's Kongsberg Defence and Aerospace (KDA) focuses on command and control (C2), and anti-ship missiles, two segments in the defense industry that show a high potential for growth. Founded in 1997, the company is wholly owned by Kongsberg Group ASA. KDA is credited for developing the anti-ship missile PENGUIN, which is equipped with a fully passive (infrared) seeker. The weapon is avaliable in surface-to-surface (ship- launched) and two diffrent air-to-surface models designed for helicopters and fixed-wing aircraft.

Article Abstract:

The anti-ship missile system continues to evolve in four main areas, necessitating the development of potent countermeasures. These are the operational aspects, the physical/mechanical aspects, the electromagnetic aspects and kinematic aspects. Among the countermeasures being developed for battleships are anti-missile missile systems, proximity-fused ammunition, guns with pre-programmed ammunition and kinetic energy ammunition.
