Article Abstract:

The Iraqi Navy, primarily under training by the UK Royal Navy, is fast moving towards taking over security responsibility for its ports and coastal waters from coalition navies and coast guards. An important part of the training is the learning of maritime security operations (MSOs) that include maritime intercept operations (MIOs), protecting sea-lanes and key infrastructure, and providing relief to mariners in distress.
