Marinette Marine to build two more USCG Junipers

Article Abstract:

Marinette Marine Corp has obtained a contract, worth around $60-million, to construct two 225-ft Juniper B-class seagoing bouy tenders. Under the deal, the company will deliver the Aspen 2001 and Sycamore in 2002 to replace the Coast Guard's WWII-vintage 180-ft bouy tenders. The new ships will have advanced electronic navigation and positioning systems to achieve its purpose of servicing many of the Coast Guard's over 50,000 bouys and navigation aids.

Major Spanish overhaul and rebuilding of amphibious forces

Article Abstract:

The Spanish Navy expects to receive delivery of its second landing platform dock (LPD) ship, the 'Castilla,' from state shipbuilder Empresa Nacional Bazan in Jul 2000. The service plans to order a third LPD with a modified design. The third LPD is believed to have a through flight deck, which should allow the ship to take the place of the support carrier Principe de Asturias, which is scheduled for an overhaul.

Bath Iron Works to build LPD 19

Article Abstract:

Bath Iron Works (BIW), a General Dynamics company, will build the third San Antonio-class landing platform dock (LPD) ship for the US Navy. BIW is a subcontractor to Avondale Industries division of Litton Ship Systems, which as prime contractor has received a $492 million contract for LPD 19. BIW expects to begin fabrication of LPD 19 in Jan 2001. The ship is expected to be commissioned in 2004.
