Massive intranet contract awarded to EDS

Article Abstract:

Electronic Data Systems Corp-led Information Strike Force has received a contract for US$6.9 billion for the US Navy-Marine Corps Intranet. The multiyear firm-fixed-price contract will offer secure, comprehensive, end- to-end information services through a common computing and communications environment that supports the Dept of the Navy's core business, sicnetific, research, computational and warfighting activities. The contract was the largest federal information technology contract to date.

Up, up, and away

Article Abstract:

Boeing Co and Lockheed Martin Corp both are putting finishing touches on US Air Force's Evolved Expandable Launch Vehicle (EELV) preparations at Cape Canaveral. The contractors are preparing to ship first segments there for development tests and checkout later in 2001, qualifying each for first launch in spring 2002 in a dual commercial-military program. The firms are putting up more than half the investment in the EELV program that is technical and business pioneer.

BGT delivers flight profile recorder

Article Abstract:

BGT's first delivery of its Flight Profile Recorder (FPR) was received recently by the German Air Force. The FPR, which utlizes accurate global positioning system data in surveying and recording flight path, is a highly advanced air combat training system which is installed under the wing of an aircraft. Up to 200 similar systems installed on other aircraft involved in air combat training can be reached by the FPR through high- capacity data link.
