Mecon 2006

Article Abstract:

A review of Mecon 2006 international conference, held in Hamburg, Germany between September 29th and October 1st, 2006, which brought together the MEKO nations with shipbuilders, naval industry, and potential MEKO users, is presented. The highlights of the conference were the first-time presentation of Multi-role Dock Ship MEKO MRD 150 to the public and the unveiling of the Combat Ship for the Littorals MEKO CSL.

INTERVIEW: Reinhard Kuhlmann, President and CEO Hellenic Shipyards S.A. (HSY), speaks on the role of the HSY as a focused Shipyard in the area of submarines, naval surface vessels and repair. He believes that the integration of HSY into ThyssenKrupp Marine Systems (TKMS) is beneficial as the knowledge and customer services of TKMS act as its network, enabling HSY to enhance its capabilities.

Fincantieri in the fast lane

Article Abstract:

An analysis of the 2005 annual report of state controlled Italian naval industry complex Fincantieri, headquartered in Trieste, Italy, is presented. The company holds the world's premier place in cruise ships, with almost 50 percent of the market share and its Cruise ships industry is expecting a global average annual growth in numbers of passengers to continue at 8 percent until 2014.
