Nancy Reagan christens newest carrier; CVN 76 named for 40th U.S. president

The Cold War buildup during Ronald Reagan presidency made the U.S. Navy the most powerful in the world. The ninth Nimitz-class nuclear-powered aircraft carrier has been christened in his name.

Bath-built destroyer named for navy secretary, statesman

Article Abstract:

The Navy's latest Flight IIA Arleigh Burke-class guided-missile destroyer that is built at General Dynamics' Bath Iron Works in Bath, Maine, is christened in the honor of the nation's most distinguished public servant. DDG9 is named Nitze in honor of 97-year-old Paul H. Nitze, a former secretary of the Navy and ambassador.
