Netherlands' TNO research organisation plans to focus on Extended Air Defence

Article Abstract:

The Dutch defence research organisation, the TNO Defence, Security and Safety is working on Extended Air Defence (EAD), one of its high priority project of the future. The air and missile defence studies, modelling and simulation, analysis and exercise support are the main areas of concentration by the integrated product team (IPT) set up for the EAD with extra attention on ballistic missiles and cruise missile defence as compared to conventional air defence, specifically long-range ballistic missiles that are required to be identified and tracked in a very early stage of their flight to be successfully engaged.

Dutch detector promises swift BW analysis

Article Abstract:

A prototype of the biological warfare (BW)/bioterrorism detection and identification system was demonstrated to Dutch Minister of the Interior on November 15, 2006, during a presentation by TNO Defense, Security and Safety in the context of homeland defense. The detector is a small, lightweight biological agent detection and identification system that can obtain mass spectra from single biological aerosol particles and very quickly identify biological threat agents.

Italy verifies upgraded Spada system

Article Abstract:

The Italian Air Force (AMI-Aeronautics Militare Italia) has successfully carried out a series of live-firing trials of its upgraded Spada air-defence system under the system's Mid-Life Update (MLU) programme. The Spada MLU primarily involved upgrades to its command-and-control system and its air-transportability that have served to further enhance the Spada system's operational capability brining it almost up to Spada 2000 configuration.
