O'Kane commissioned; Lassen christened; Mustin, Chafee selected as DDG names

Article Abstract:

The US Navy commissioned the USS O'Kane (DDG 77), another Arleigh Burke- class Aegis guided-missile destroyer, in ceremonies at Naval Station Pearl Harbor, HI. The ship is named after Rear Adm Richard H O'Kane, a recipient of the Medal of Honor for his daring attacks on two Japanese convoys in 1944 while he was still commander of the Gatoclass submarine USS Tang. The O'Kane is the second US Navy ship to be commissioned in Hawaii. The first was the Ticonderoga-class Aegis guided-missile cruiser USS Lake Erie.
