Off to the scrap heap? not so fast!

Article Abstract:

Companies involved in the disposal of US Navy ships are facing strict environmental and safety regulations issued by federal, state and local governments. They also face negative public perception due to adverse working conditions. Negative public perceptions have forced the Navy to suspend and investigate the sale and disposal of scrap vessels and have also forced the US Congress to propose a legislation that seeks to ban the export of scrap American ships.
