Out-of-state and non-state actors keep Africa down

Article Abstract:

It would appear that the African continent is disintegrating politically despite beliefs in a 1990s democratization of Africa. The National Security News Service reports that nearly 50% of at least 30 wars being waged worldwide in 1999 are located in Africa. Prospects for the continent's future are bleak despite strong intentions at reform because of a continuing, historic interference from out-of-state and non-state interests that have consistently stifled attempts at economic and democratic progress before they have even been implemented.

Further conflict on the cards for troubled South Ossetia

Article Abstract:

Georgia believes that the Russian support for separatists in Abkhazia and South Ossetia is a deliberate strategy to make it impossible for Georgia to integrate with the West. The South Ossetians are resisting the Georgian attempts to reduce Russia's role in the process aimed at resolving the conflict, however a stalemate is guaranteed unless the existing political format guiding the negotiations is reformed.
