PLAAF continues to modernise at a slow yet steady pace

Article Abstract:

China's People's Liberation Army Air Force (PLAAF) is slowly building its defense capability amidst a shift in the Chinese armed force's fighting doctrine. While emphasis on the PLAAF has in the past come second to that received by the country's ground forces, Deng Xiaoping's rise in the 1970s and 1980s heralded a new focus towards equipment and training improvements. China's procurement of Su-27 fighters, as well as its efforts to produce its own aircraft, both under license and through indigenous technology, are signs that the country is forging ahead with the enhancement of its air capabilities.

Final offers due for South African buys

Article Abstract:

The South African government is expected to implement all of the major equipment procurement projects being negotiated with European defense firms and governments. Analysts cite the need to re-equip the South African National Defense Force (SANDF) as a major reason for the government's expected move. Another reason for the expected move is industry's positive response to the South African government's offset and general industry participation requirement. The procurement programs expected for approval address the needs of the Army Navy as well as the Air Force.
