Packing fast and heavy: Seeking solutions to the strategic-lift riddle

Article Abstract:

Expeditionary forces require heavy transport and thus airships, radical aircraft shapes, flying boats, skimmers and fast hulls are examined. The Lockheed Martin C-5 fleet remains to be the heaviest airlift option. The challenges faced by the Rapid Strategic Lift Ship (RSLS) programme, which is planning to achieve a step change in strategic airlift, are discussed.
