Pentagon plan would close Groton sub base and bolster Kings Bay

Article Abstract:

The Base Realignment and Closure (BRAC) Commission would decide the fate of 33 major defense bases and present the report to President George W. Bush by September 8, 2005. Major naval stations recommended for closure includes naval air stations in Atlanta and Willow Grove, Pennsylvania, a submarine base in Groton, Connecticut, naval stations in Ingleside, Texas and Pascagoula, Mississippi and the Portsmouth Naval Shipyard in Kittery, Maine.

"Development maturity phase" recommended for Osprey program

The Marine Corps V-22 Osprey is being reduced to minimum budgetary levels while further research improves its reliability and maintainability. The decision by an independent review panel delays product indefinitely in the wake of two fatal dec 2000 crashed.
