Platform may be the key to aerial common sensor decision

Article Abstract:

The platform that comprises of ship, aircraft or vehicle is considered a ebusE that moves its mission sensors or weapons to the area of operations. The performance qualities of the bus are as important as those of the sophisticated sensors in the competition to develop and build the next-generation airborne intelligence, surveillance and reconnaissance (ISR) system for the Army and Navy.

Litton to acquire Avondale - but NNS deal still on hold

Article Abstract:

Litton Industries Inc will buy Avondale Industries Inc, a New Orleans, LA, builder of amphibious warfare and auxiliary ships, in a deal worth $529 million. The transaction will expand Litton's ship product line to include medium-size amphibious warfare ships and auxiliary ships. Litton will also control both major Gulf Coast shipyards, Avondale and Ingalls in Pascagoula, MS.

Admiral Timothy J. Keating, commander of U.S. Northern Command (NORTHCOM) and the North American Air Defense Command (NORAD), says one of his top priorities is to ensure that defense of the United States is "an away game". He discusses various issues concerning NORTHCOM such as the new technologies being used to improve response capability.
