Pricey operation: Homeland protection still draining Air Force

Article Abstract:

The Air Force is under tremendous pressure by every standard measurement the service uses as of guarding the U.S. airways, homeland protection and performing other Noble Eagle missions. The Air Force will have to cut down something in order to cover up the Noble Eagle mission costs and if proper action is not taken then Air Force's operations and maintenance account could go broke before the end of fiscal year 2006.

Crowded cockpits: Have retention bonuses outlived their usefulness?

Article Abstract:

The US armed forces today have more pilots on their rolls than are required and the reasons for this are discussed. The program of aviation continuation pay, or ACP, under which a pilot in the armed forces receives a US$ 25,000/- per year bonus for continuing in service beyond the initial ten year service commitment is mainly responsible for the high pilot retention rate.

Tough choices
