Prize-winning innovation at NADEPs

Article Abstract:

Raytheon E-Systems Inc is under contract with the Defense Industrial Supply Center to manage supplies at naval aviation depots (NADEP) in Cherry Point, NC, and North Island, CA. Bobby Meadows, a branch manager at NADEP Cherry Point, said parts are now availabe more than 99% of the time since Raytheon took over the supply chain management, whereas before 15% to 30% of the parts were not available at anytime. The contract also called for Raytheon to develop the software needed to predict aircraft wear rates and monitor procurement and delivery requirements.

MSC tests outsourcing of VERTREP helicopters

Article Abstract:

The Military Sealift Command (MSC) has awarded Fort Collins, CO-based Geo- Seis Helicopters Inc with a three-year, $20.3-million contract to provide its requirement for vertical replenishment (VERTREP) operations. The MSC contract also provides for an additional two-year, $10.9-million option. The deal is part of a pilot program that will enable the MSC to decide whether outsourced VERTREP services are a cost-effective alternative to the use of H-46 Sea Knight helicopters.

Bell H-1 4BW/4BN upgrade to fly in October 2000

Article Abstract:

Bell Helicopter Textron will deliver remanufactured helicopter gunships to the US Marine Corp by Oct 2000. The conversion contract involves 280 UH-1N Huey and Ah-1W Super Cobra helicopters. The helicopters will be reconfigured with advanced systems, will get new T700 engines. The full drive-train system will also be upgraded to improve its performance, cut the logistic support costs, enhance its life cycle, increase its speed and allow it to carry heavier loads.
