Put fitness back into the PFT

Article Abstract:

The US Marine Corps is being urged to review its curent weight control, body fat, and physical fitness test requirements. The clamor for the reexamination of the service's PFT requirements came after a recent study by the Naval Postgraduate School and a similar effort by the Office of the Secretary of Defense as well as the National Center for Health Statistics. Specifically, the service is being asked to adjust the body fat limit to a justifiable 20% body fat limit from the stringent 18% requirement.

Wisdom beyond their experience

Article Abstract:

The Basic School (TBS) and Infantry Officer Course (IOC) develop small unit leaders with the judgment to temper zeal and aggressiveness with concern for the welfare of those they lead. An examination is conducted to demonstrate the way the skills and judgment learned at TBS and IOC would prevent any doubt the role in combat with reference to personal experience of young officers in the field.
