Resolution set for new survey role

Article Abstract:

The Royal New Zealand Navy (RNZN) is nearing finalization of the Phase II conversion of its new survey vessel HMNZS Resolution, ex-USNS Tenacious. The former US Navy Stalwart class T-AGOS towed array surveillance ship, acquired under approval from the New Zealand government for NZ$12 million in October 3, 1996, is being converted to perform both oceanographic and hydrographic surveying functions. Phase II of the conversion package, initiated in May 1998, encompasses the installation of the new STN Atlas Elektronik Hydrosweep MD-2 swath multibeam sonar supplied as Government Furnished Equipment to Babcock New Zealand, which was appointed as design agent and responsible for implementation of the refit and conversion initiative.
